Inside the Studio — Where Oil Paintings Become Objects

My studio is not a clean white room. It is a place of red walls, old furniture, brushes, frames, drying paintings, sketches, tools, unfinished decisions and objects that slowly become part of the work. I like this kind of space because painting does not happen only on the canvas. It also happens in the atmosphere around it.

This is where plein air studies return after being painted outside. A small seascape from Sardinia, a winter landscape, a still life, a dog portrait or a view from Poland may stand together for weeks before I understand what each painting really needs. Some works remain quick and direct, while others become part of a longer studio process. The studio gives me distance from the first impression and lets the painting become a physical object, not only an image.

I also painted this space itself. The painting Light in the Studio shows the room not as a tidy workplace, but as something more intimate: furniture, window light, brushes, a skull, a palette, red walls and the quiet disorder of work. For me, it is not only an interior painting. It is a portrait of the place where other paintings are made.

An original oil painting is different from a reproduction or an image on a screen. It has surface, weight, edges, scale and a particular presence when it hangs in a room. In the studio I see this clearly: a painting changes when it is framed, placed against a wall, moved into shadow or seen next to other works. That is why I think of painting not only as making pictures, but as making objects that can live with someone for years.

Light in the Studio is available as an original oil painting. Other landscapes, plein air works and figurative paintings are also available in my shop.
