Historic Places Interpreted in Oil
These works range from Venetian architecture and church facades to weathered Tuscan structures, Polish historic buildings and ancient Sardinian stone architecture.
Italian Towns and Venice
Oil paintings inspired by Venice, Tuscany, Monza and other Italian places where warm stone, narrow streets and shifting sunlight create a distinct atmosphere.
Painting Italian ArchitectureChurches and Sacred Architecture
Church entrances, monastery passages, chapels and historic facades painted through vertical rhythm, deep shadow, warm reflected light and expressive brushwork.
San Gerardino in MonzaFacades, Streets and Details
Doorways, arches, old walls, stairways, arcades and quiet corners treated as complete painterly subjects rather than background elements.
Kazimierz Dolny PaintingsRural and Ancient Structures
Weathered farm buildings, old stone ovens and ancient structures whose surfaces connect architecture with the surrounding landscape.
Nuraghe Izzana in SardiniaArchitectural Oil Paintings by Andrea Bocedi
Architecture appears throughout my work as part of a broader interest in light, space and atmosphere. A church facade, Venetian doorway, Mediterranean wall, ancient stone structure or narrow street can contain enough visual structure to become the entire subject of a painting.
Many of these paintings begin with direct observation. Some are painted entirely en plein air, while others are developed in the studio from my own photographs, sketches and experience of the location. Venice, Tuscany, Monza, Sardinia and Kazimierz Dolny have each provided different architectural subjects, from reflected light on pale facades to arcades, stairways, church interiors, worn walls and prehistoric stone buildings.
Rather than reproducing every architectural detail, I simplify buildings into larger relationships of colour, shadow and shape. Light is usually the main organising element: warm exterior walls may be set against cooler shadows, while a doorway, window, arch or opening of sky can become the focus of an interior or narrow street.
The collection includes original architecture oil paintings for sale, Italian cityscapes, church paintings, historic facades, rural buildings and smaller architectural works suitable for private collections and interiors. Each painting is individually created, signed by the artist and available only once.
The journal features the places and processes behind individual works, including plein-air painting in Tuscany and Monza, historic architecture in Venice and Poland, and the ancient nuraghe landscape of Sardinia.
