The selection moves between Italy and Poland: Tuscan hills and stone buildings, Sardinian coastlines and ancient structures, Venetian architecture, Polish rivers, winter fields and the interior of the artist’s studio.
Some works were painted directly outdoors. Others were developed in the studio using personal photographs, studies and direct experience of the places represented.
Throughout the collection, light remains central: light falling across a wall, reflecting from water, opening distant space or changing the colour of a familiar landscape.
An ancient Sardinian monument, the artist’s studio and Venice at night introduce three distinct sides of the collection.
An ancient nuraghe rises from low, sun-burnt ground in Gallura. The weight of the stone, the dark opening and the dry colour of the surrounding land give the small structure a monumental presence.
