Description

Original Polish architecture oil painting

Franciscan Monastery in Kazimierz Dolny

This original oil painting presents the entrance to the Franciscan
Monastery in Kazimierz Dolny, one of Poland’s most distinctive
historic towns. A steep stone staircase leads upward between pale
walls, tiled roofs and dense vegetation toward the almost black
opening of the monastery gate.

Rather than documenting every architectural detail, the painting
concentrates on the physical structure of the place: rising steps,
diagonal walls, overlapping roofs and the sharp contrast between
sunlit plaster and deep shadow.

Light, architecture and ascent

A Composition Built Around the Staircase

The movement of the painting begins at the lower edge and
continues upward. The staircase provides the main direction,
while the sloping wall, small roofs and branches repeat that
ascent throughout the composition.

The dark gateway acts as the visual destination. It is surrounded
by warm whites, muted greens, red-brown roofs and a clear area
of blue sky. The contrast gives the small painting a sense
of depth and architectural weight.

The monastery provides the subject, but the structure of the
painting comes from the steps, the dark gate and sunlight
pressing against white walls.

Paint surface and architectural character

A Small Original Painting with a Strong Physical Presence

The compact 24 × 30 cm format keeps the composition concentrated.
Broad passages of light are interrupted by smaller accents in the
stairs, roofs and foliage. Visible brushwork and changes in paint
thickness help distinguish rough plaster, stone, vegetation
and the dark interior of the gate.

This is both a painting of a recognisable Polish landmark and a study
of how architecture controls movement through space. It may appeal
to collectors interested in Polish art, church paintings, historic
building paintings and original architectural subjects in oil.
